“I was amazed not just by what Awen provide for tenants, but by how much they invest in their staff too.”
I joined Awen in the Resources Department as a Finance Assistant in February 2024. One thing I learned very quickly is that no two days are ever the same.
Some days involve the core tasks that keep everything moving, such as processing invoices and payments. On other days I might be helping to organise fundraising campaigns, like our Christmas Gift Card Appeal, or even solving the occasional “mystery.” By mysteries, I mean working out what a transaction is and where it came from. It is not quite detective work, but it can certainly feel like it.
My favourite part of my job is taking a step back and reviewing our processes, then coming up with new ways to innovate and streamline them. Finding improvements that make things smoother for the whole team is something I really enjoy.
Awen have supported me throughout my AAT journey. I completed Level 2 last year and I am now progressing through Level 3. I also had the opportunity to join the Future Leaders programme, and I am currently studying for my ILM Level 4 qualification while managing my first project. These experiences have been challenging in the best possible way and have helped me grow both personally and professionally.
What surprised me most when I joined was not only the level of support provided to tenants, but also how much Awen invest in their staff. The development opportunities and the encouragement to progress have made a huge difference to my confidence and career path.
If I could say one thing to anyone considering applying for a role here, it would be: just do it!
