I started in the Asset Management team as a Building Surveyor in May 2022 and have been in this role since.
My days on the job are varied. Some days I’m on site supervising current works or surveying new works, such as roof replacements, solar PV instalments or external curtilage improvements. Other days I work in our office or at home monitoring and maintaining administrative systems. I get a real mix of every working environment.
My favourite part of the job has to be seeing how impactful the end result can be for tenants and the community. The positive feedback we receive from tenants makes the job really rewarding. There are the occasional challenges that arise but tackling these is all part of the job and a part that I also really enjoy.
Every employee at Awen gets three volunteering days a year. Previously, I have used my volunteering days to install communal raised planters and waste storage units to some of our works and again, seeing the impact of this on tenants and the community is really rewarding.
A standout day for me at Awen was when our health and wellbeing group organised a retro sports day. It was really nice to see everyone come together, have a bit of fun and get slightly competitive.
During my time here, I have had the opportunity to take on additional training and boost my skills. I’ve had role specific training which has helped my progress in my job role, including a Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings.
